Staff Spotlight: Katie

Easy one... what's your name?
Katie

Where do you work in the Library and what's your position?
I work in the Youth Services division as the Early Childhood Librarian.

How long have you worked at the Library?
I started working at TPL in April of 2018, so almost 5 years.

What do you like best about your job?
There are so many parts of my job that I like, but I think my favorite is feeling like a celebrity with the toddlers who come to my Toddler Story Times. Honestly, no one is ever as hyped to see me as a toddler on Story Time day.

What is the proudest moment in your life?
I don’t know that I could say that this is the proudest moment of my life, but paying off my school loans was a big milestone. However, I think that I would describe it more as a moment of profound relief.

What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?
I think that the most important thing I’ve learned is that God is working things out for good, even if it doesn’t feel good in the midst of it. There is always light, something to be grateful for, even in the darkest places.

Three words to best describe you:
Eco-conscious. Intentional. Introvert.

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?
This isn’t exactly an event, but I would really like to visit the Library of Alexandria before it burned down. Peak library nerd stuff.

Favorite book quote?
Ah! there is nothing like staying at home for real comfort. -Jane Austen, Emma

What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Jellyfish. I cannot recommend it.

What is your favorite thing to do in Temple?
Temple has a lot of lovely parks, and I enjoy walking in them. Not running, though. Running is kind of the worst.

You’re happiest when?
I know this is super cliché, but I’m happiest when I’m spending time with my family. They’re pretty wonderful.
