Dive Into Summer

Every year, Temple Public Library puts on a Summer Reading Program to combat the Summer Slide, a phenomenon in which children's reading and math comprehension deteriorate over the summer due to lack of engagement in reading and mathematics. This year, as studies come out about the effects of online learning on the social-emotional well-being of children and how virtual learning affects children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, we find it imperative to engage all of our community in reading and social activities that promote a strong sense of community and educational exploration.

Which means, this year . . . we are going all out.

2022 Oceans Text

This year is themed "Oceans of Possibilities," and that is what we plan to provide. We are starting this Summer off with a Kick-Off Party on May 28 from 1PM to 3PM. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Temple Public Library and includes games, crafts, the chance to sign up for Summer Reading, cool swag, and snow cones (free while supplies last).

Starting June 1, we are partnering with TISD to provide FREE Summer Meals to any and every child in Temple. At 8:30AM, breakfast is served! Stop by the 3rd Floor to grab a bite and hang out with other families. After that, stick around for the Library to open at 10AM and enjoy all kinds of activities for all ages. At 12PM, head back up to the 3rd floor for a free hot lunch. Meals are available for anyone 18 and under and must be eaten on site.
