An Ocean of Possibilities in the Library

This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is Oceans of Possibilities. When you open a book, there is an endless sea of opportunities and experiences waiting for you in every word. In fact, the library has created an immersive experience this Summer with jellyfish happily floating above the shelves, fish swimming above you on the second floor, and a scavenger hunt for pirate treasure!

One of our favorite things to do during the summer is find new books to check out. Need some help? Dive into these absolutely cray-sea Children’s picture books!

Smiley Shark by Ruth Galloway: Smiley Shark loves to smile but everyone is afraid of his big, sharp, grin. Could his toothy smile be used for good? Check out Smiley Shark by Ruth Galloway to find out!

How to Catch a Mermaid: Have you ever wanted to catch a mermaid? Would you try to catch one with jewelry? A sparkly crown? Mac and Cheese? Read How to Catch a Mermaid by Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton to discover what happens when a group of friends go on the adventure of a lifetime!

The Heart of a Whale: Have you ever heard the beautiful song of a whale? While the whale’s song brings joy to all of the animals in the ocean, he searches for what brings joy to his own heart. The Heart of a Whale by Anna Pignataro is not only a beautiful story of a whale looking for happiness but is also full of absolutely stunning illustrations.

If you want to check out some more whale-y good reads, we have great booklists on our catalog:

56 Days by Catherine Ryan Howard

"In this brilliant thriller set in Ireland, Howard takes the reader back to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. While providing a wonderful historical time capsule for all of us who experienced all that uncertainty in that time, she also sets the scene for potentially the perfect murder. This is a novel that is easy to get lost in as you keep all the puzzle pieces straight. Overall a true joy to read and unravel!"
