January Staff Spotlight!

Easy one... what's your name?
Rylie
Where do you work in the Library and what's your position?
I work as a part-time librarian assistant in adult services.
How long have you worked at the Library?
I have worked at TPL for almost five years.
What do you like best about your job?
I love engaging with the wonderful members of our community, and I thoroughly enjoy being surrounded by books every day!
What is the proudest moment in your life?
I recently graduated with my Bachelor in Social Work degree from Texas A&M University-Central Texas. This was a very challenging and rewarding process that took a lot of hard work, so it is definitely one of my life's proudest moments.
What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?
Through my education and my time at TPL, I have learned the importance of kindness. Every person we meet carries a wagon of experiences and challenges we may not know about, and being kind can be more meaningful than we know in the moment.
Three words to best describe you:
Easygoing, creative, and joyful.
If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?
I would like to have witnessed the Women's Suffrage Movement. To see the movement's power, strength, and determination and to feel their ultimate success in the 19th amendment would be incredibly moving and inspiring.
Favorite book quote?
“I AM GOING TO BE FURIOUSLY HAPPY, OUT OF SHEER SPITE.” ― Jenny Lawson, Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things
What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
For better or worse, I am a little bit unadventurous when it comes to "weird" foods. The oddest food I enjoy is probably Bleu cheese.  Since it's essentially cheese with mold, it's kind of weird...right?
What is your favorite thing to do in Temple?
I love exploring local restaurants and coffee shops in Temple.
You’re happiest when?
I am happiest when reading a book while drinking a good cup of coffee and snuggling with my fur children.
